September, the first. It's back to school time
Today is the Day of Knowledge, or simply September, the first. It's back to school time.
In New Zealand recently there was a referendum. The inhabitants of this remote island had to decide whether or not it was acceptable to use "physical methods of persuasion" toward children for the educational purposes. In other words, whether it is allowed to "clip" (hit on the back of the head) a not so obedient son-pupil or a daughter-schoolgirl.
The nation's verdict- it is possible What a pity...
First of all, me and my husband have always been liberal parents and have never beaten our daughter (even though as I recall my mother has always hit me with a small stick whenever she thought that I did something wrong).
Secondly, I would really like for a well-developed country like New Zealand to reverse its decision on the ruling regarding child punishment. This country would be among the first to do so, and many other nations would follow this example. Eventually, the whole World would follow. I think that we will live up to the time when referendum will deal with issues such as child punishment rather than with Constitutional and political reforms.
Children need to be protected because they are better and wiser than us, adults...
I have recently read the following story: Inside one of the American subway stations there was a man playing a violin. Because of his manners it would be possible to him, as we commonly say here, a bum. The whole crowd has been passing him by, without giving him much attention, and only occasionally someone would throw in a coin or two into his hat. And only one three-year-old girl has stood enchanted by the musician, listing to his music. Only when her mother has pulled her by the hand has she started to move. Later, it was declared that this concert was an experiment of the newspaper Washington-Post. The "homeless" musician was Joshua Bell, the most ingenious modern violinist. He was playing the most complex musical compositions on the violin of the Stradivari, worth $3.5 million. Only a small child has seen the whole beauty of the music. Thus, let us love and protect our children.
